Through the Arts, we learn to find our own voice and communicate our feelings, and make sense of our place in the world. ISS believes that it is important for students to be exposed to a wide range of artistic experiences to help discover their particular interests. By studying and practicing the Arts we hope to help foster a lifelong interest in creativity.

The ISS Arts Program incorporates a diverse range of media, from painting and drawing, to musical performance, theatre, film and animation, and digital technology. It is individually tailored to each student, and is focused on hands-on, practical creative work and individual instruction.

Are symbol systems as important as letters and numbers.
Integrate mind, body, and spirit.
Provide opportunities for self-expression, bringing the inner world into the outerworld of concrete reality.
Create a seamless connection between motivation, instruction, assessment, and practical application–leading to deep understanding.
Are an opportunity to experience processes from beginning to end.
Develop both independence and collaboration.
Exercise and develop higher order thinking skills including analysis, synthesis, evaluation, and "problem-finding."
Are languages that all people speak that cut across racial, cultural, social, educational, and economic barriers and enhance cultural appreciation and awareness.
Reach students who are not otherwise being reached.
Connect students to themselves and each other.
Transform the environment for learning.
Connect learning experiences to the world of real work.
Provide the means for every student to learn.

The ISS Music Program is focused on performance and musical communication. Students learn to express themselves musically, work in a group situation, communicate musical ideas to one another and create their own performance pieces.

Students also learn to use digital technology to record and manipulate sound, and work with Film and Theatre students on multimedia projects. We cater to all levels of ability, from beginner to advanced, with the aim of encouraging students to make music an integral part of their creative life.

Encouraging creativity and practical art production are the focus of our Visual Arts program. Working in paint, sculpture, drawing, photography, or computer-aided design, students engage in developing their own personal style and working methods, learning new techniques and creating artworks. With a focus on individual instruction, Visual Arts students at ISS are offered the freedom and flexibility to personalize their art practice, in order to find ways to make working in the Visual Arts a productive and enjoyable experience.

Theatre Arts at ISS is offered at the middle school and high school levels. Students gain experience through dramatic work, ensemble work, improvisation, and performance and stagecraft elements that make up a theatrical performance. Students are immersed in performance skills, contemporary and traditional world theatre, play analysis, and a minimum of two theatre productions. ISS is a member of ISTA, the International Schools Theatre Association.

Background knowledge of, and a general and wide interest in the Visual and Performing Arts is an advantage. An ability to work collaboratively and creatively with others in an organised manner, and to negotiate and to undertake private study in an organised and sustained manner is essential. This course of study would be of interest to students who wish to develop group skills in theatre production and skills in areas such as, digital music production, technical theatre and stagecraft, performance art, multi-media presentations, puppetry, politics and performance, and son et lumiere presentations.

Students taking part in the ISS Arts Program also have the opportunity to participate in film-making, animation, audio art and experimental multimedia projects. Combining many artistic disciplines and technology, Media projects allow students to work co-operatively and use their strengths constructively in a team environment.
